Check for Convictions

What is it?

Check for convictions is a time saving tool that will allow you to view previously entered driving licence information by customers. You should be looking out for this tool to be filled in mainly for validations. This means all you need to do is copy the details entered into this tool into the DVLA site.

Why would convictions be incorrect?

Customers will purposely leave convictions off of their insurance, with the aim of reducing their annual premium.

How do I use it?

  • Once you have opened the tool, you'll know if it's usable by looking at the data within it. If the policy holder has provided their licence information online, you'll see those details prefilled.
  • From here, copy and paste the information into the DVLA site - https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence. From here you'll be displayed with the licence summary, for you to check, download and upload to Docusure if neccessary.

Tips and tricks:

If a conviction shows as expired, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be declared. The DVLA will class convictions as expired after 3 years, however for insurance purposes, we need to know about the past 5 years of conviction history.
